KOTA PADAWAN: Clogged and overflowing drainage systems are commonplace during wet spells and the Padawan municipality is no exception.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai who is well aware of the situation has pledged to take remedial measures in especially areas much complained about by the people here.

“Now is the rainy season, heavy rainfall and high tides cause river water levels to rise, causing overflow and flooding,” he said, calling on the people to be more vigilant.

“In dealing with floods, all parties need to come together, we are facing climate change, there is no need to point fingers at each other, it does not help,” he said after conducting a visit to one of the severe drain blockages along Jalan Stephen Yong.

“We must pay attention to global climate change, rising water levels, and the issue of extreme weather.

“Most importantly, we must work hard to reduce the risk of floods, control river water levels, and plan water level drainage systems. These require cooperation from all parties,” he added
