KUCHING: Some civil servants attached to the Premier’s Department will be sent overseas for short courses aimed at addressing global challenges.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said these include Harvard University in the United States and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore.
He stressed that environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors are important thus, this initiative aims to expose them to current methodologies for finding appropriate solutions to future challenges.
He said discussions on case studies would be conducted through these courses.
“This step will indeed provide benefits in terms of problem-solving approaches to issues faced by the government.
“On our part, the cabinet also needs to adapt when formulating policies. We want to formulate practical and up-to-date policies in line with the challenges faced by the government,” he said.
Abang Johari said this at the Premier’s Department Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration at the atrium of the State Legislative Assembly building here Monday (Feb 19).
On the same note, he said Sarawak has amended some of its laws to enable the state to actively participate in efforts to address challenges, particularly those arising from climate change.
“We are getting experts to join the civil service in order to provide us with input based on current technology and current concepts of development that are environmentally oriented. “We know that ESG issues are important. Therefore, they need to be clarified so that the state can continue to progress,” he added.
