Vacant quarters engulfed by fire

BAU: A wooden quarters of the Public Works Department (PWD) at Jalan Bangalow here was completely destroyed in an early morning fire yesterday (Jan 29).

Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties reported in the incident, which occurred at 6.23 am, as the building had been abandoned for some time.

A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters from the Bau station were dispatched to the location following an emergency call.

Upon their arrival, they discovered that the vacant building was beyond saving, and proceeded to extinguish the flames.

Subsequently, they performed overhaul works to ensure there was no risk of the fire reigniting.

After confirming the area was safe, the team concluded their operation at 8 am. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
