MIRI: Initiating steps towards setting up regional hospitals in key regions of Sarawak, construction is in progress for a new building dedicated to healthcare in the area.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni highlighted the long-term commitment involved in planning clinics or hospitals, underscoring the Health Ministry’s (MoH) pursuit to set up regional hospitals in Miri and Sibu.

“Sarawak has placed hope in the federal government to set up regional hospitals for Miri and Sibu. This is a significant plan that will take a considerable amount of time to achieve.

“Miri has already taken the step with the construction of a new building in progress. Similarly, in Sibu, the expertise and facilities will be enhanced,” he told the media this after a walkabout in the Miri City Health Clinic today.

On the critical issue of staffing healthcare facilities in Sarawak, he assured the continued prioritisation of the matter.

He revealed his engagement with senior MoH officials, including Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, underscoring the nationwide shortage of medical personnel, not exclusive to Sarawak.
