SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) has adorned the entrance of Sibu Central Market with a combination of two festive season designs to usher in the double celebrations of Christmas festival 2023 and New Year celebration 2024.

According to Sibu Central Market Management Committee chairman Albert Tiang, the arch is a yearly initiative by the council to enhance the festive mood for shoppers.

“For this year’s Christmas festival and New Year celebration, the arch is fully funded by the Sibu Division Hawkers Association,” he said when met by the media after visiting the market here on Thursday.

Tiang also mentioned that the total cost of the arch with the theme ‘Emmanuel’ is RM6,500.

“The arch initiative (built and decorated according to each festival) is a token of goodwill for everyone to be more inclusive and understanding towards one another, as well as to appreciate the various festivals we have here in our country,” he added.
