SIBU: Marshmallow from Miri stole the limelight when the team emerged as the champion in the K-pop Dance Cover competition, The Stage 4.0: Blast Your Stage held at Hann’s Residence here on Saturday night (Oct 28).
For their feat, the team powered by six little girls walked away with cash prize of RM3,000.
Swan D of Sibu came second place and won RM2,000. Genmai from Kuching and DVS Jr of Bintulu grabbed the third and fourth placings respectively and took home RM1,000 and RM500 in cash. The prizes were presented by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek.
A total of 42 groups participated in The Stage 4.0 competition organised by Hyper Young and Junior Chamber International (JCI) Seduan in collaboration with Sibu Social Media Activist (Yartist) Club. The competition, which runs from Oct 27 to 29 will showcase various dance categories such as Street dance, K-pop dance and more.
The Stage – a long term project initiated by Chieng is a sharing platform with a vision particularly to invite and gather Sibu talents from the local communities.
It is a platform for all, especially young people here to unleash their talents and give them exposure.
Speaking to reporters at the event, Chieng said the aim of this event was to provide opportunities for the youth to showcase their talent in dance.
“We hope this event can be an excellent platform for young people to showcase their talents.
“In Sibu, we have many young people who are talented in dance but unfortunately we do not have a suitable platform to tap their talents.
“This time, we are attracting more competitors who are not only from Sibu to contest on this stage but participants from Miri, Bintulu, Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and even Singapore,” he said.
He said, the purpose of inviting competitors from outside was to share in the creativity of each other’s talents.
Through this event, he said the participants would be able to learn dance rhythms from outside participants, especially those from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore who have more international exposure.
“At the same time, we also propose to organise an international dance competition here next year. We want to introduce this dancing culture in Sibu in particular,” Chieng added.
Also present were president of JCI Seduan, Siow Kok Ping and chairman of Yartist Club, Johnson Ling.
