KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Berhad’s (SEB) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and the Lifelong Learning Unit (PSH) of Mas Gading Community College are teaming up to foster women entrepreneurs.
It is an effort to improve their socio-economic status, particularly those in longhouse areas around SEB’s power project developments.
SEB, through its Corporate Social Responsibility department, collaborated with Mas Gading Community College (KKMG) and the Jalan Bukut Balingian Longhouse Association to organise a baking course at Rumah Panjang (RH) Petrous Ambun Lubuk Bukut Balingian from Oct 17-19.
“This programme involved 18 selected participants, each representing a longhouse in the area under the leadership of headman Jeffery Irut,” said.
Irwan Borhan, representing SEB during the programme’s closing ceremony.
He said SEB will consistently organise skill development programmes, especially high-impact courses, for communities near Sarawak Energy’s power assets.
“SEB will continue to collaborate with various government agencies and non-governmental organisations like Mas Gading Community College, which is closely connected to the local community through the Lifelong Learning Unit (PSH) to improve their socio-economic income, as we did today,” he added.
The closing ceremony was attended by Lenny Lai, head of the Lifelong Learning Unit at KKMG, headman Jeffery Irut, Lubuk Bukut longhouse chief Petrous Ambun, community leaders, and officers from SEB and KKMG.
