SIBU: For over three decades, Lions Clubs worldwide have held a special art contest in schools and with youth groups.
Immediate past president of Lion Clubs International 308-A2, Kapitan Connie Loh Ming Hua said that creating peace posters encourages children to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity.
Speaking as guest of honour at the prize-giving ceremony for peace poster contest hosted by Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan (LCSP) at Wong Nai Siong Secondary School (WNSSS) here today, she said the theme for 2023-2024 peace poster contest is “Dare to Dream”.
“To a young person, a dream isn’t just a wish, hope or desire – it’s a path, a goal, an ambition.
“But achieving that dream takes hard work. So this year, we are asking young people to show how they’ll turn their dream of a peaceful world into reality,” she said.
Loh thanked to the Lions Clubs in Sibu for believing in the youth by sponsoring the contest.
Among those present were LCSP president Kong Tze Ling, past district governor Datuk Betty Wong Yieng, principal of WNSSS Lu Yew Hiiung and organising chairperson Pok Chee Hua.
Meanwhile, the contest witnessed Alice Yee Kah Xian emerged as the champion, followed by Amelia Ling Yue Lin as first runner-up and Ivan Kho Zhi Xun, second runner-up.
Five consolation prizes were given out to Lau Hang Tung, Anecia Tan Yu Ting, Bernard Ong Zhen Yao, Jerry Hii Hiong Yong and Anne Kiu Sing Mee.
