SIMANGGANG: Rumah Sri Aman Gallery, a symbol of heritage and unity, is set to become a prominent tourism attraction and an iconic building in the heart of the town.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the gallery is not just an architectural marvel; it encapsulates the town’s tumultuous past, marred by conflict and bloodshed.
“This landmark represents our shared history and the peaceful future we aspire to build.
“Our aim is to turn it into a destination for schools, offering the younger generation a chance to explore Sri Aman’s historical roots.
“By educating our youth about our history, we hope to instil a deep appreciation for the peace we enjoy today,” he said during his speech at the officiating ceremony of the Rumah Sri Aman Gallery here yesterday.
Rumah Sri Aman had borne witness to the pivotal Sri Aman Declaration of 1973.
Abdul Karim noted that the declaration marked a significant moment in the transformation of Sarawak’s political and security landscape.
The transformation in Sarawak’s political and security landscape is evident, he said, as people from diverse backgrounds can now come together without any suspicion.
“Whether in different ethnic villages or urban centres, a sense of ease prevails.
“The government’s efforts to build trust among the various communities have borne fruit, allowing for peaceful coexistence despite the nation’s rich diversity,” he asserted.
As such, he emphasised the importance of unity and tolerance among the people.
“We hope that our country continues to progress, and it is our collective responsibility to safeguard our nation,” he added.
On the other hand, Abdul Karim pointed out another noteworthy event on the horizon, ‘Lan Berambeh’, which is scheduled for October 21.
He noted that ‘Lan Berambeh’ is an opportunity for state leaders to engage with Sarawakian students in Peninsular Malaysia, fostering a connection with the next generation of leaders.
“This tradition, which began as a small gathering, has now evolved into a grand event that draws over 10,000 attendees each year, he said.
University students from Perlis to Johor come to the ‘Lan Berambeh’, which stands out as a unique initiative, highlighting the state’s dedication to its youth and the unity of its people.
