KUCHING: A State Unity Action Committee (JTPN) dedicated to promoting unity and harmony in Sarawak has been set up by the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development.
Its minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the establishment of the committee reflects the state government’s commitment to foster inclusivity and cooperation which have earned it recognition as a model for Malaysia.
“Sarawak has always placed a strong emphasis on unity as a fundamental necessity for peace and prosperity in our nation. Without unity, we risk jeopardising Sarawakians’ security and their overall well-being.
“This committee represents the various segments of society. Therefore, it consists of individuals from different ethnicity, religious backgrounds, academia, NGOs and welfare organisations,” she said.
Fatimah said this in a press conference after attending the Sarawak Unity Action Committee meeting at Baitulmakmur Building II here Tuesday (Sept 26).
She said this diversity within the committee will ensure unity concerns are addressed comprehensively.
During the meeting, the panel discussed various unity-related issues, particularly in the state.
“When we discuss unity, it means not only unity among various races and religions but also unity between rural and urban populations, the young and the old generations, and unity between Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
“So, this must be given attention, and we will examine what policies need to be maintained or added to ensure this unity continues to be guaranteed in Sarawak,” she added.
A total of 30 individuals of various ethnicity, religions, generations, and backgrounds have been appointed as members of the JTPN.
Among them are Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang; Department of Information Sarawak Director, Jaafar Jantan; Unit for Other Religions Affairs (UNIFOR) Director, Datuk Jack Aman Luat and Sarawak Arts and Crafts Association President, Gerald Goh.
