BARAM: The Roman Catholic Church Divine Mercy in Long Jegan, Tinjar is now completed and ready for use by the congregation.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said that although the construction of the church faced delays due to financial constraints and the COVID-19 pandemic, it is finally being used by the residents of the surrounding areas.

“This church is not only for Kampung Long Jegan B but also for the surrounding villages and all Christians from other longhouses,” he said at the opening ceremony of the church recently.

He said the construction of the church was made possible through funds allocated by the Sarawak government via the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR).

In this regard, Penguang, who is also Marudi assemblyman called on the Christian community to always stand united for unity.

He also urged community leaders and village chiefs in Long Jegan to continually foster good relations and unity with residents from other longhouses.
