SHANGHAI: Indonesia is not only seeking to become a country that sets halal certification standards, but also a global halal production hub, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has said.

“Indonesia not only wants to provide halal certification standards in the world, but wants to become the world’s largest country in producing halal products,” he expounded here on Monday, reported ANTARA news agency.

Vice President Amin made the statement during a meeting with the Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs, And Cosmetics of the Indonesian Council of Ulema (LPPOM MUI), Shanghai, and Chinese halal sector entrepreneurs.

The meeting took place at the LPPOM MUI Office in Shanghai, which also serves as the office of Shanghai Al-Amin Consultant, one of the subsidiaries of Shanghai Al-Amin Biotech Co. Ltd.

“We made a halal standard that becomes a halal standardisation system in the world and is recognised by 50 halal certification bodies,” the VP noted.

To develop and promote Indonesia’s halal product standardisation, the LPPOM MUI has established representative offices in several global cities, including Shanghai.

Amin invited entrepreneurs from several countries, especially China, to invest in halal products in Indonesia.

“Recently in Fuzhou, we met with 10 entrepreneurs, some have and some will invest in Indonesia because the halal lifestyle has become an integral part of the global Muslim community,” he said.

According to him, the value of the world’s halal food consumption in 2021 reached US$1.27 trillion and is predicted to reach US$1.6 trillion by 2025. Meanwhile, investment in the halal food sector reached nearly US$4 billion in the 2020–2021 period.

“The halal lifestyle has been part of the world’s population irrespective of religion or belief, as halal products’ cleanliness, safety, and health are guaranteed. This will certainly spur world demand for halal products in the future,” he explained. – BERNAMA-ANTARA
