Parents, passion, and persistence lead the way

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Success stories emerged from the 97th convocation ceremony of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak, where graduates attributed their achievements to their passions and unwavering support of parents, mentors and peers.

Held at the Jubilee Hall yesterday, Mohamed Yusuf Hassan Roslan, 22, was the star graduate of the day. Hailing from Bangi, Selangor, this third child in a family of four bagged the Overall Best Graduate Award (Diploma) and the Best Leadership Graduate Award (Diploma).

“My parents are my pillars of strength and inspiration,” said Mohamed Yusuf. “Passion for what we do drives us forward, and I’ve been blessed to have lecturers and friends who have constantly encouraged me.”

Mohamed Yusuf’s educational journey is far from over. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with Honours at UiTM in Shah Alam. 

Beyond academics, he led as the deputy president of the National Student Consultative Council (DPNSCC) and chaired the Malaysian UITM student representative council for the 2022/2023 term.

Similarly, Siti Nur Aisyah Mazlan, 24, who graduated with a Bachelor of Sports Science with Honours, spoke of her love for the subject. As a former Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) Shooting athlete, she aims to enhance athlete performance through sports science knowledge.

“My parents always believed in my choices,” said Siti. “I’m also grateful to my understanding friends who have supported me, especially during my participation in various sports events.”

Following her undergraduate success, which earned her the Best Overall Graduate Award (Bachelor) with a score of 3.58, Siti is now pursuing a Master of Education (Research) at UITM, Puncak Alam.

Another gleaming success was Ain Fitriyah Mohd Amin, 26, who expressed her surprise at receiving the Sarawak Foundation’s special Best Graduate Award (Bachelor).

“I’ve always had a passion for numbers,” said Ain. “Even though I started in the Science stream in Kuching Science High School, I found my true calling in accounting during my diploma studies. It’s this love for managing finances that has driven me to excel.”

Ain, who is deeply interested in the world of accounting, aspires to become an accountant one day.
