PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Government Servants’ Welfare and Sports Council (Maksak) has been urged to reduce dependency on external consultants by giving full confidence to civil servants to perform their duties within their capacity and respective abilities.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali who is also the president of Maksak Malaysia said this was in line with the aspiration of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim through the pillars of ‘confidence’ under the Malaysia MADANI framework.

“Maksak needs to mobilise all the skills and expertise of its members to meet the expectations of the Prime Minister by improving the skills and capabilities of its officers.

“(This is) especially for the younger officers to explore new opportunities to implement programmes and initiatives to achieve the goals outlined by the government,” he said when speaking at the Maksak Awards Night here yesterday.

Malaysia MADANI, which is based on the six pillars of sustainability, innovation, creativity, respect, trust and compassion, was introduced by Anwar in an effort to steer and restore the country’s dignity and glory on the world stage.

Mohd Zuki said the ability and expertise of the younger civil servants should well utilised to improve the image of the public service as one of the best in the Asian region.

“This concept of Malaysia MADANI can also be applied in sports tournaments run by Maksak.

“In addition to increasing the quality of tournament management and programmes organised, the application of this concept is expected to bring more creative and innovative reforms in improving the quality of sports for civil servants to the best possible level,” he said.

Mohd Zuki said Maksak also played a role as an entity capable of uniting all civil servants either at the federal or state level through activities or initiatives organised such as sports events or community service.

Meanwhile, he also expressed his appreciation to the 18 affiliate bodies of Maksak that participated in the tournaments organised in 2022.

A total of 27 tournaments and 22 programmes were organised in 2022 across the country with the participation of 10,536 individuals.
