DARO: An early morning inferno tore through two workers’ quarters at Batang Muara Lassa construction site this morning, rendering 92 tenants homeless with their belongings reduced to ashes.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 7.15 am incident as the tenants were not at home and had already gone out for work.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Daro station were promptly despatched to the scene, some 4km away, after receiving an emergency call.
Upon arrival, the team found that the quarters that housed 16 rooms were beyond saving.
The extinguishing task was performed together with the Civil Defence Force (APM) and Daro auxiliary firemen by drawing water from a nearby river.
The firefighters completed their task around 9.30 am.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
