KUCHING: A motorcyclist died on the spot, while his pillion rider sustained severe injuries following a fatal two-vehicle collision along Jalan Stapok Utama last Monday.
Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the collision happened around 11.45 pm in front of HK Square and involved a motorcycle and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
The MPV was turning right into Carina Estate Road when the motorcycle, carrying the victim and his pillion rider, crashed into it from the opposite direction.
The motorcyclist, identified as Abdul Rahim Mohamed, aged 33, pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
His body was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for post-mortem examinations.
The pillion rider, a 47-year-old woman, suffered severe injuries and also was rushed to SGH for further treatment.
Meanwhile the 57-year-old driver of the MPV didn’t sustain any injuries in the accident.
The police are seeking witnesses to help with their investigation into the incident.
The case is being looked into under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
