Belaga Regatta makes a comeback next month

BELAGA: The 7th edition of Belaga Regatta is to return this year, featuring various water sport competitions on August 3 to 6.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Telecommunication) cum Belaga assemblyman, Datuk Liwan Lagang said the biennial event was last held in 2018.

“The programme will commence on July 30, but the main events will take place on August 3 to 6, showcasing various events,” he said after chairing a meeting with the event organising committee at Belaga District Office yesterday.

He added, each event organised during that particular time would showcase the uniqueness of Orang Ulu culture in the Belaga district.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the event.

“This programme also serves as a platform that promotes our unique culture in Belaga to those coming from outside Sarawak,” he said.

In the most anticipated event-paddle boat race, a massive cash prize amounting to RM20,000 (King of the River or Lakin Hungey) is awaiting the winner.
For other unlimited categories, the cash prize worth RM10,000 is up for grabs.

Total prizes for the whole event amounted to RM163,000.

Among other events that are scheduled to be held during Belaga Regatta this year are various culture performances, ‘People’s Sport’, fun run, food and beverage stalls, roadshows by various government and non-governmental agencies, Mobile Legend Electronic Sports, Traditional Hut Exhibition, speed ​​boat race and others to name a few.
