MIRI: Over 130 villagers had the opportunity to benefit from a two-day free medical programme held on June 24 and 25, organised by the Long Tepen Penan Rural Community Service Project here.
In a statement today, despite the challenging road conditions, a dedicated team of 50 volunteers, including healthcare professionals and social workers, remained enthusiastic and provided free medical services to the villagers and surrounding areas.
The journey to reach the village required a five-hour drive using 15 four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles. The volunteers were led by Lee Jun Tak, the organising chairman, and Andy Jong Wan Joon, the president of the Lions Club of Batu Niah and the vice organising chairman.
This successful programme was made possible through a collaborative effort involving various organisations. The Lions Club of Batu Niah, Miri Community Welfare Development Association, The Twin Brothers Patisserie, Zone 6 Fire and Rescue Department, Marudi Fire and Rescue, Miri Hospital, Miri Dental Clinic, and the office of the Miri Member of Parliament joined forces to support and contribute to the event.
The programme not only brought much-needed medical assistance but also demonstrated the power of community collaboration and goodwill.
