SIBU: Twelve chapters of the Lions Club International District 308-A2 will be organising a seminar on Rabies Control at 1pm on November 24 at RH Hotel here.

The 12 clubs involved in the seminar are Lions Club of Sibu Dudong, Lions Club of Sibu Jaya, Lions Club of Sibu City, Lions Club of Sibu Lanang, Lions Club of Sibu Sg. Merah, Lions Club of Sibu Nangka, Lions Club of Sibu Berjaya, Lions Club of Sibu Bawang Assan, Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan, Lions Club of Sibu Host, Lions Club of Bintangor and Lions Club of Queensway.

The seminar is organised to spread the awareness on rabies as members of the public lack the necessary knowledge of the outbreak.

Organising chairperson Kapitan Connie Loh said that the seminar which would be open to the public, would teach the people on how to put a stop to the disease.

“The two speakers, assigned by the Health Department, will share with the audience on what is rabies, how it is transmitted to human and pets and how to avoid it,” she said at a press conference here yesterday.

She added there were still people who did not know that the disease had no cure and the death rate of those infected with the virus stood at 99.9 percent.

Meanwhile, Loh said the council had done their best to contain the disease by catching stray dogs and the public should not entirely rely on the council to do the work.

“With the knowledge gained from the seminar, the people could complement the council’s effort in the fight against the spread of the disease,” she said.

Loh added that they were targeting at least 300 people for the seminar and refreshments will be served at the end of the seminar.
