BINTANGOR: The political atmosphere in Sarawak is significantly different from the situation in Peninsular Malaysia, said Datuk Abdullah Saidol.

The Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communication Unit) said that unlike in the peninsula where the political situation can be tumultuous at times despite the formation of a unity government through a coalition of several parties, the situation is different in Sarawak where the practice of politics of development continues to be the core of Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) political base, strengthened by the spirit of ‘Sarawak First’ introduced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“In Sarawak, representatives of GPS are busy ‘competing and challenging’ each other to become high-performing representatives who are passionate about advancing the community and developing the areas they represent.

“Sarawak serves as a model and example of racial and religious unity in this country, to the extent Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has recognised and adopted the slogan ‘Segulai Sejalai’ as a national unity tagline,” he said.

The Gawai Day celebration held at these three longhouses received a warm response from the local residents, along with the symbolic presentation of Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

For the record, the total value of MRP given out was RM25,700. Also present was Tanjung Manis MP Yusuf Abdul Wahab.
