Miri-Bekenu road condition pleases Premier

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his entourage has arrived at Pantai Bungai for a pit stop before proceeded to Nyalau and later Bintulu.

BEKENU: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is amazed by the good condition of the road leading to Bekenu from Miri.

“The road is way better now,” he told the media in Pantai Bungai, during the Sarawak Merdeka convoy in conjunction with the Sarawak 60 years independence celebration on Saturday.

Abang Johari and his entourage, made a pit stop at the Bungai Beach before proceeding to Nyalau and Bintulu.

“In the past, I used to come to Bekenu for a recitation programme with the people in the surrounding areas and at that time getting to Miri from Bekenu took about three hours drive but now, it is a thing of the past, as we now can easily reach Miri from Bekenu in one hour,” he said.

The convoy reached Pantai Bungai which lies 47.3km from Miri city at 10.41am.

On hand to receive the convoy were residents holding banners stating ‘I love Premier Sarawak’.

Abang Johari took part in the ‘Nyiam Batis’ (foot bathing) and yellow rice ceremony.

The Premier and his entourage were also briefed on the development progress of the area by Subis District Pemanca Dr Ali Mudin.

They were also treated to choir performances by students of SMK Bekenu and a drumming display.
Abang Johari also announced a donation of RM10,000 to the Parents Teachers Association of SMK Bekenu.

Also in the convoy were Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister of Health Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Deputy Minister of Welfare ,Women, Family Community Well-being and Childhood Development Datuk Rosey Yunus, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dr Ripin Lamat, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Aidel Lariwoo, Tupong Assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, Miri Resident Jamalie Busri and Subis District Officer Norlila Ulis.
