‘Sarawak Craft Council’s 18 sales events generate RM485,000’

SARAWAK Craft Council has involved in 18 promotional and sales events involving 142 participating agencies generating RM485,000 in direct sales.

This was said by Minister of Tourism, Art, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during his winding-up speech, at State Legislative Assembly (DUN), yesterday.

“The development of handicraft in the State were divided into three core areas namely capacity building, marketing and promotion, and research and development,

“In 2018, Sarawak Craft Council’s capacity building programmes were focused on production skill and basic business skill training,

“A total of 25 training sessions were conducted involving 188 participants as at 31st October 2018,” he said.

For 2019, Sarawak Craft Council will focus on creating more avenues for handicraft producers and retailers to promote and sell their products at local, national and international events and fairs.

“This would include participating in more promotional events and training producers on promoting and selling their products online,

“The capacity building programmes will focus on production techniques, product finishing and quality,

“Various training sessions have been planned for 2019 to boost products output, quality and variety,” he stated.
