SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) must continue the important agenda of fighting for Sarawak rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Its Youth chief Michael Tiang said hence, the party members, especially its five branches in Sibu namely, Pelawan, Nangka, Dudong, Bukit Assek and Bawang Assan, must be united in one spirit to safeguard the state’s rights.
“Without unity, the party will be divided and this may even affect the struggle (fighting what belongs to Sarawak) under the MA63,” he said.
He said this during the flag raising ceremony in conjunction with SUPP’s 64th anniversary at the party headquarters at Jalan Kampung Datu here on Sunday (June 4).
Tiang, who is also SUPP vice president said the main role of the party in fighting for Sarawak rights is for the benefit of the people.
“Hence, party members must put aside personal interest and continue to serve the people,” he said.
“Should there be any issues, discuss it among party members to reach a consensus and avoid any unnecessary disputes that could split the party.
“We have to learn from what happened to SUPP as there was a split before. As such, I want all party members from the five branches here to defend the unity not only within the party but also with other component parties in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS),” he said.
