KUCHING: Melanaus are encouraged to organise more activities to strengthen their ties with one another.
In stating this, Deputy Minister for Urban Planning Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh pointed out that the Melanau community was diverse as it comprised over 40 ethnicities.
“With the diversity that we have, it is important that we strengthen our community through organisation of programmes and activities.
“Therefore, I am allocating RM50,000 to financially aid the community to organise such programmes. This is our focal point,” he said.
He said this when officiating at Majlis Pededun Rayak and Pra Gawai 2023 at Wisma Melanau Kuching here today.
Adding on, he reiterated the importance of interactions within the community.
“Though we speak different languages, have different religions and cultures, we continue to be united nonetheless.
“That is why, it is important for the Melanau associations to put in more efforts to organise more activities and programmes so that we can gather around such as today and empower our community,” he stressed.
