KUCHING: Sarawakians have been urged to take extra precautions following the rabies outbreak in the state.
Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said that dog owners should cooperate in the fight against rabies by making sure their pets are licensed and vaccinated against the disease.
“Wild dogs that have red eyes and are aggressive should be avoided,” he said. “If bitten, please quickly seek treatment immediately because rabies in people is preventable.”
He said this after attending the oath-taking ceremony of the Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.
Dr Rundi reiterated the importance of taking the rabies outbreak seriously in order to avoid more loss of life.
“I also want to thank the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak for their commitment to deal with the rabies outbreak,” he said.
