MIRI: Eleven local men, aged 19 to 40, were detained by the police over their alleged involvement in a brawl inside a bistro in Vista Perdana Permyjaya here early Friday morning.
This was confirmed by Miri Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu yesterday.
He said the incident happened at around 12.15 am.
“All suspects has been remanded for one day to facilitate our investigation into the incident,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief.
Alexson has also denied any shooting in the incident that went viral by netizens.
“Please do not speculate on the incident,” he said
Earlier on, several footages of the incident depicting several men involved in a fight, hurling glass bottles and kicking chairs inside the bistro had gone viral on social media.
One of the men involved in the fight had fled the scene on a Four-Wheel-Drive (4WD) vehicle but he got chased in a car and cornered by the suspects in Desa Pujut 2, where the alleged attack incident occurred for the second time.
