MIRI: The police clarified today that a man seen wandering around Taman Bumiko wearing orange clothing similar to a prison uniform, is not an escaped prisoner but rather a homeless person.
Miri Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed this in a statement, in response to a viral photo of the man circulating on social media that had caused many to speculate that he was a fugitive.
“After the photo of the man went viral on social media, our officers went to investigate the situation. We found out that the individual is actually a homeless person and not an escaped prisoner as claimed,” he said.
He also reminded people of Miri to avoid making any speculations as it could create panic among the public.
