BAU: The malaria infection status in Ulu Baram is under control, said Deputy Minister of Health Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
He said that the Miri divisional health office has taken proper precautions to prevent the spread of the disease.
“And the health authorities had implemented every procedure to curb malaria cases.
“We are still waiting for the latest report and do not worry since the situation there, such as Long Lellang which has many on-going activities is likely the ground zero for the spread of malaria,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after officiating at the Health Care Scheme for B40 Group (PEKA B40) at Bau Civic Centre on Friday (March 31).
Earlier, according to several news reports, a doctor in Miri had urged health officers to take immediate action following the possibility of the spread of malaria in Ulu Baram following two reported cases recently.
Chief medical officer of Columbia Hospital Miri Dr Roland Dom Mattu had said that immediate action must be taken or the tourism industry in the rural area would be affected.
This is because two of his relatives from Long Lellang had tested positive for malaria and he hoped the people who are going to the interior areas would stay alert.
He urged those who had contact with residents of those villages concerned or anyone who recently visited the interior to inform the doctors if they had any malaria symptoms.
