BINTULU: A 28-year old foreign man was apprehended by police for involvement in drug abuse activities at Pasar Lama Bintulu on Wednesday (22 March).


According to Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit, Bintulu police arrested the 28-year old foreigner for drug distribution and drug abuse activities.


The police force made an inspection on him and found a total of 12 straw tubes believed to be syabu weighed 6.7 grams of syabu.


The suspect will be investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
Investigations have found the suspect to be positive on Methamphetamine and will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.


Initial investigations showed that the drugs were used for distribution in the city area and plantations for around 150 drug addicts.


The foreigner is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for not having valid travelling documents.


This arrest is one of the police’s efforts in overcoming the problem of drug abuse, as well as preventing criminal activities in the Bintulu district.

Bartholomew advised the public to continue channelling any information related to drug activities to Bintulu police at 086-318304.
