KUCHING: The International Conference on Waqf and Endowment (ICWE) 2023 will be held here from March 16 to 17.
Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) vice chancellor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said the two-day event will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said a total of about 300 participants from government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), industry players and academics will participate in the programme.
“Among the aims of the programme is to give awareness to the community about how important the aspects of waqf are.
“During the programme, we will also launch a Waqf Health Fund specifically to help cancer patients. This fund is a collaboration between UNIMAS and Sarawak General Hospital,” he said in a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).
He said this after paying a courtesy call on the Premier at Wisma Bapa here today (Feb 17).
On the same day, the Premier also received a courtesy call from the Sarawak Syariah Judiciary Department led by Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications (Utilities) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss initiatives in empowering judicial institutions in the state.
