KAPIT: The Sarawak government has allocated some RM400 million to implement various development projects in Kapit over the last three years.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said these projects include those under the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA), ‘projek rakyat’ (people-centric projects) and minor-rural projects.

He noted that Kapit is developing rapidly including areas outside of Kapit and the development projects were being implemented smoothly.

“However, there are also some projects that are delayed due to logistics issues but we will look for alternatives to solve this and will take time.

“Under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) midterm review, we will also conduct a study on the implementation of the projects,” he told a press conference after chairing the State Development Coordination Committee meeting in Kapit today(Feb 1).

The Premier said Kapit would experience a change in its development landscape with the implementation of the Kapit Town expansion project, following rapid development in the area.

“Actually, there is already a master plan for the expansion of Kapit town which involves the development of a new urban area which will be connected to the main road to Sibu.

“This new urban development project covers the development of the commercial centre, housing and basic roads,” he added.

After the meeting, Abang Johari also presented a cheque for funding of missionary schools in Kapit Division for the year 2022, from Sarawak’s Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), amounting to RM944,800, and presented a certificate of appointment of new community leaders in Kapit Division.
