SAR launched to find man feared drowned in Rajang River

SIBU: A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched today (Jan 31) to locate a man who was reported missing in Rajang River last night (Jan 30).

Amirzaman Alam, 25, is believed to have fallen from the Lanang Bridge around 4.45pm.

The victim is described to be about 167cm tall, has short black hair, light skin and a lean body structure.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said they alerted to the incident by the victim’s friend around 7.40pm.

“A search operation involving the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), marine police and Civil Defence Force (APM) is being carried out.

“The operation will continue until the victim is found subject to weather and river current conditions,” he said.

He appealed to anyone with information to contact investigating officer Sgt Abdul Rahman Mat at 014-3177026 or go to any nearby police station.

As at press time, the victim is yet to be found.
