KUCHING: The mastermind in the recent armed robbery at an eatery in Jalan Stutong area here, has been smoked out by police in just 48 hours.
Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah told reporters the 36-year-old male suspect was picked up around 9.30 pm last night (Jan 25).
A special team with the help of the Sarawak D9 branch was formed to handle the case as soon police received a report on the robbery.
“What is interesting about this suspect is that he is on our list (of wanted persons).
“The suspect has seven prior records related to drugs and property theft. Therefore, this case is considered solved and I thank the netizens for their cooperation and determination to help solve the case,” he said.
Ahsmon said the suspect will be remanded to facilitate investigations and to find out whether he was involved in other criminal activities.
Efforts to locate his accomplice is still underway.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.
