SARATOK: The Saratok United Music Association is advised to increase the number of programmes that try to revive the traditions and culture of the Chinese community here.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said, like other races, the Tiong Hua community also has rich traditions and culture that should be preserved.
“For example, this is done through the Saratok United Music Association, which organises many annual Chinese song competitions.
“The spirit of love for music and songs inculcated from childhood will ensure that the children of the new generation do not forget the traditions and culture of their ancestors.
“Therefore, continue to increase the number of programmes that are able to revive tradition and culture so that it can be revived by future generations,” he said after presenting a donation of RM10,000 to the Saratok United Music Association.
The Sehati Saratok Music Association also received donations from Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and Krian assemblyman Friday Belik which were amounting to RM11,000 and RM5,000 respectively.
Mohamad also called for the involvement of the Tiong Hua community to jointly develop Saratok District and Kalaka DUN in particular.
“I am quite impressed with the spirit of togetherness that all the races in Saratok live by so that we remain peaceful and peaceful.
“So also in the development aspect, I also want the participation of the Chinese community to contribute to development.
“And as a representative of the people, I want to ensure that the needs of every race are met regardless of majority or minority because we are all equal as citizens of Bumi Kenyalang and Malaysia,” he explained.
He hopes that more Chinese non-governmental organisations (NGOs) come forward to move in line with the government.
