KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to a fine of RM1,600 or month’s imprisonment in default by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for breaking into an abandoned building at Jalan Sungai Periok with the intention of stealing.
Accused Rizal Bakri, 25, from Kampung Sungai Maong, pleaded guilty to a charge which was read out by an interpreter in front of Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
Based on the charges, he and a friend of his who is still at large are accused of committing the act in an abandoned building at Jalan Sungai Periok around 10am last Sunday (November 13).
He was therefore charged under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass, which carries a jail term of up to six months or a maximum fine of RM3,000 or both, upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, the security guard (complainant) on duty that day saw two men in suspiciously standing on the roof of an abandoned building.
The complainant swiftly contacted the authorities for assistance.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police ordered them to come down from the roof of the building, but the accused’s friend managed to escape.
Meanwhile, the accused was successfully arrested and taken to the Padungan Police Station for further investigation and action.
In addition, items belonging to the accused such as metal cutting tools were also confiscated.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad requested that the court impose an appropriate sentence as a lesson.
