KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is the foremost choice for parents and students in the state.
Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) deputy information chief Andy Lawrence said this is because it is the only state government in Malaysia that recognises the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).
“This is where Pakatan Harapan (PH) has failed during its administration,” he said in a statement, referring to the opposition coalition’s 22-month rule.
He said PH had also promised to return education decision-making powers to Sarawak but that this never materialised.
Lawrence added that PH also failed to waive the Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) loans and that it was the Sarawak government who came up with initiatives through its education foundation, Yayasan Sarawak by providing millions of funds to help ease the burden of Sarawakian students relating to their PTPTN loans.
In addition, he also pointed out that Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) ministers under PH failed because they did not enjoy freedom.
“They were controlled by their political masters in Malaya unlike GPS, which is free from any political parties in Peninsular Malaysia.
“This was proven when GPS Members of Parliament (MPs) worked hand-in-hand with the state government when the state government initiated a lawsuit against Petronas. And this has allowed Sarawak to earn more revenue.
“However, none of PH Sarawak MPs supported the state government,” he said.
He said this is why it was important Sarawakians, especially parents and students, understood that 31 MPs from GPS along with MPs from Sabah could ensure peninsula parties no longer had political dominance.
