KUCHING: The three candidates vying for the Puncak Borneo Parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15) are former comrades in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
The trio – Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Datuk Willie Mongin, 47, Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) candidate Iana Akam, 47, and Pakatan Harapan (PKR) candidate Diog Dios, 55.
Willie, the incumbent won the Puncak Borneo seat in the 14th general election in 2018 on PKR ticket, but defected to Bersatu before joining Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) a few months ago.
Meanwhile, Iana was a grassroots leader of PKR during GE14, but then left PKR to contest in the state election in December last year for the Serumbu seat but lost to GPS candidate Miro Simuh.
Diog, a former school teacher, meanwhile had previously lobbied to run as a PKR candidate in GE14 and Sarawak’s state election, but only got nominated by Pakatan Harapan (PH) to contest the Puncak Borneo seat in GE15.
Willie is from Kampung Bratan in Mambong state constituency while Iana is from Fairy Krokong village in Serumbu constituency and Diog from Kampung Emperoh Git, also in Mambong.
An aspiring candidate for ASPIRASI, George Young, pulled out of the race.
