Over 20,000 students benefit from food bank programme so far

KUCHING: The Food Bank Programme managed by the Food Bank Malaysia Secretariat, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), has been active since February 2019.

Although focus is more on the Student Food Bank Programme, aid is also channelled to groups in need, including selected B40 groups and victims of natural disasters.

“As of September 2022, a total of 20,951 students have benefitted from this programme, covering 28 higher education institutions (IPT) nationwide.

“Sarawak KPDNHEP has also helped a total of 3,894 students through the Food Bank Programme, covering six IPTs throughout Sarawak,” said a KPDNHEP spokesperson to the media on Wednesday (Oct 26).

Sarawak KPDNHEP also welcomed the contributions from Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, donating daily necessities and food through the programme to Rumah Seri Kenangan, Batu 12 Kuching in conjunction with Bulan Warga Emas.

Rumah Seri Kenangan received RM20,000 to improve the facilities for the comfort of its residents.

Meanwhile, Farley Supermarket also participated in the food donation to the elderly.
