KUALA LUMPUR: The Sarawak football camp failed to qualify for the quarterfinals in the Malaysia Games 2020 (Sukma XX).

They sustained a 2-0 defeat against this year’s President Cup winner, Johor.

Head coach Safri Amit said despite it being a tough game for his team, there were moments of hope where they could even out the playing field against Johor.

“We knew it would be a tough game and we know the abilities of our opponent. But we managed to balance the game (throughout most of the match).

“There were a few chances. If we conquered the chances, maybe there would be a different outcome,” he told reporters after the match at Stadium UNITEN here today.

Safri said he was disappointed to see that some decisions made by the referees during the match were “too one-sided”.

“As we have always said. We are going against 12 players including the referees and linesmen instead of 11.

“But such is football and we have to accept this,” he added.

He added that the lack of star players due to injuries in their first eleven lineup also played a small role in their defeat.

However, credit to those who substituted for our top players as the team still manages to play well today,” said Safri.
