KUCHING: Pipes damaged during the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway must be repaired immediately to avoid water supply disruption to households.
“What’s important is that when there is a road construction project, the relocation of pipes must be done early before the road alignment works.
“Damaged pipes is a common problem. Therefore, a solution must be found to solve this issue.
“We must ensure that this must not happen, however, we must also make sure the road is completed immediately,” said Datuk Julaihi Narawi.
The Minister for Utility and Telecommunication was commenting on the major pipe damage at Mile 7, Jalan Miri-Bintulu that affected water supply to residents in the area.
“Based on past experience, pipe relocation is very important when building roads to avoid future problems,” he told the media after the closing of the Sarawak Water Supply Retreat here on Friday (Aug 19).
“The public are more aware now. They don’t simply put the blame 100 per cent on utility agencies anymore as they realise that leakages are caused by relevant departments who have work to be completed in the ground.”
