KUCHING: Betong Division will be hosting this year’s state-level National Day celebration, with the theme “Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama”.
More than 1,000 people are anticipated for the event, which will take place on Aug 31 at the Tan Sri Amar Datuk Stephen Kalong Ningkan Sports Hall, Betong.
The minister-in-charge of the festivity, Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the event would start with a 4km Unity Ride around Betong town.
“The Unity Ride flag-off is 8am from the Betong Sports Complex and will end at the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan Sports Hall, to commence the National Day celebration assembly, which is expected to start at 10am.”
He told the media this after holding a meeting with the organising committee here on yesterday (Aug 11).
The Minister for Utility and Telecommunication added that the Ambang Merdeka concert would also be held on the night of Aug 30.
The concert will feature performances from popular local artists as well as traditional and contemporary dances from the Sarawak Arts Council.
Among those expected to attend are Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib as well as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
