KUCHING: The education system in Sarawak is not stagnant, assured the Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

“I don’t believe Sarawak’s educational system is stagnant; in fact, we are progressing. It is evident from the different structured educational programmes that such efforts are not in vain.

“In addition, personnel with competence and knowledge of future requirements carry out the programme’s preparation. As a result, for Sarawak, we are truly moving forward,” he remarked.

He said this to reporters at a press conference after officiating at the Sarawak Dual Language Programme (DLP) 2022 for teachers of year three students at the Grand Continental Hotel yesterday (August 9).

“We (Sarawak) are not stagnant, we are moving forward, especially on the issue of education,” he emphasised.

Senior Minister of Education Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin admitted that Malaysia’s education system has stagnated as a result of the reluctance to make changes which has caused other countries to surpass Malaysia.

He said that when the UPSR and PT3 national exams were scrapped, a number of teachers and other stakeholders strongly opposed the move, saying that schools were not ready for classroom assessment (PBD) and school-based assessment (PBS).

He pointed out that PBD and PBS had been introduced for more than 10 years in the system but many say they were not ready.

However, he denied that Malaysia’s education system was lagging behind and was becoming stagnant and static.
