MIRI: Member of Parliament for Sibuti, Lukanisman Awang Sauni lauded the formation of the new Sarawak’s coalition party-Gabungan Parti Sarawak(GPS). “I believe through this new coalition party (Sarawak-based party) it will help to uphold and restore our(Sarawak) rights,” he said via WhatsApp message yesterday.
On Tuesday, 12 June, Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg who is also president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) announced that four Sarawak-based parties namely Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP)are leaving the Barisan Nasional(BN).
“As a new MP I accept this decision and I hope that besides the four parties I also encourage other parties in Sarawak to join GPS. “I have asked our party’s grassroots to give their views on the formation of the coalition and most of them responded positively to it. “I believe through GPS, Sarawak MPs will be able to cooperate with the current ruling government at the Federal level.
“As Sarawak MPs are not bound by any instruction from BN or PH (Pakatan Harapan) they are free to support proposals that benefit the state,” he said. He added that even though GPS MPs are still in the opposition bloc, Lukanisaman has pledged to be a better opposition.
