To See a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wildflower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour

William Blake, English poet

In my last column I said that your will determines your path. That as you will something into your life, you actually attract it and so for your reality to change, the things and people around you change, little by little, one closing door and one opening door at a time.

To understand this, we need to understand us, and how we function. Go beyond religion and science for a minute and try to think about a world where there is no division. Where we are all the same infinite consciousness. Imagine you are a drop in the ocean – are you the drop or are you the ocean itself? You are both – there is no division , the droplet IS the ocean. It is a powerful concept, one that if we all were to believe in, we would end forever wars, human suffering and be emancipated from constantly fighting one another, because we are all drops of the same ocean.

The ancient Greek philosopher Plato said that human beings are like people shackled in a cave facing the wall in a cave, away from the opening or mouth of the cave. Life and activity behind them casts shadows on the wall, and all they know about life and universe are from the shadows of the watch from birth to death.

There is so much of life we don’t understand and the biggest part of it all is who we really are and how powerful we are as an ocean, not a drop.

We pigeonhole ourselves not to question our instincts or any idea that goes beyond what we are taught in school or university, but science and religions are man made, understood and passed down to us from men. God, our creator is all powerful – how well do we know this being who created us if we just listen to other men and not ourselves – we who come from God and not men?

Joao Magueijo, the Portuguese cosmologist and Professor in Theoretical Physics at imperial College London says “most science is just a theory and not motivated by existing observations crying out for an explanation. It seems to me that contradicting textbook wisdom is only heresy for those who have learnt it from the same book.”

Albert Einstein described reality as “an illusion, albeit a persistent one”. He went on to say, “A human being is part of the whole, called by us Universe, a part limited in space and time. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves  from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”

Morpheus tells Neo in the Matrix , “What is real? How do you define real? If you are talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, taste and see, the ‘real’ is simple electrical signals interpreted by your brain.”

Virtual reality technology that we see today employs the same senses and brain deciding processes. You could be standing in an empty room and yet be experiencing any situation you choose via the information embedded in the software of the game.

In this toxic rat race of focusing on only the material world, we lose ourselves and the significance of who or what we really are. The bigger picture of humanity as a whole… the many drops that make the ocean. We are more than just our name, occupation, income bracket, religion, race, body. We are, as the Native Americans said, all connected. The birds, tress, animals, people, sky, water – we are all connected. I did not quite understand that as a child when I first heard it , but it is beginning to make a lot of sense as I make my journey through adulthood.

And it gives hope.

Hope that we are not helpless victims of circumstance. That we have great power within us to change this world, collectively, to be the kind of world we want to live in. We just need to put our years of indoctrinated differences aside, and become one people. Division of humanity only benefits the few at the top who thrive by stealing from the people while they are manipulated to constantly fight amongst themselves to subscribe to the Matrix . If people keep thinking each other as the enemy because they’re of different religions, race, nationality or income bracket, they are too consumed by hate to look up to see who is actually manipulating them.

In unity, peace and love, do we become truly free.
