KUCHING: The proposed new Oya Waterfront will include proper facilities to allow jet skiers to land their jet skis.

Dalat assemblywoman Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said at the same time, is it hopeful that the new element, apart from the traditional longboat, could attract youth to participate in jet skiing.

“The new Oya Waterfront is among the projects Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved when he launched the Melanau Heritage Gallery on May 28. Hence, the waterfront will include a special place for the jet skis.

“It is a good initiative as it will create interest among the youth especially in jet skiing,” she said.

She said this when officiating at the Sarawakku Sayang Jet Ski Convoy Programme which was co-organised by the Dalat Jet Ski Club, Kuching Jet Ski Club, and Pulau Li Hua Recreational Sports Club at Kuching Waterfront today.

The Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister said that the new Oya Waterfront project costing RM24 million would be constructed in stages.

“All these new developments will be done in phases. And it will definitely change the landscape of Oya and Dalat.

“Now we have the Melanau Heritage Gallery, and we are also going to have the Sagu and Nipah Board Complex which is going to be located in Dalat as well as the CENTEXS that is going to be completed in 2023.

“So it will become a very important agricultural hub as well as for skills and training centre apart from the tourism and eco tourism products. This is what we want to offer,” she said.

Also present was Dalat police chief DSP Saga Chunggat, who is also the safety advisor of Dalat Jet Ski Club.
