KUCHING: Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi has echoed the call of Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud for the private sector to seize the economic opportunities as a result of the relocation of the Indonesian capital to Kalimantan.
“The private sector is encouraged to seek opportunities to collaborate with their Indonesian counterparts to develop the new area,” he said.
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Pantai Damai assemblyman said this in a press conference after the opening ceremony of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Tuesday (May 17).
“The main factor is for the private sector to participate in infrastructure development and for the Indonesian government to develop the archipelago on a large scale in a short amount of time,” he said.
He added that Indonesia would need expertise in terms of building roads, and bridges, including facilities such as electricity, water supply, and telecommunications.
“As a neighboring country, we may be able to provide Indonesia with our expertise.
“I implore all entrepreneurs with the facilities and skills in this field to participate,” he said.
Earlier, the Pantai Damai Service Centre also held its Hari Raya Aidilfitri programme.
