KUCHING: An Abstract Art Show 2022 featuring the works of six local abstract artists will be held at La Promenade Mall, Kota Samarahan from May 14-June 5.

There will also be two workshop sessions on May 21-22 on new ways of appreciating and attracting the public to engage with various types of abstract art.

The exhibition will feature Sarawakian abstract artists, David Chew, Sebastian Jong, Jane Ling, Joanne Lau, Michelle Liou and Shiela Kho.

“This is a unique exhibition because it focuses solely on abstract art; it does not include impressionist, fine art, realism, or other categories, and it is purely abstract,” said Chew.

“Abstract art is purely based on what the observer perceives, each person may decipher an artwork based on their own imagination,” added Jong.

“Different minds of different ages will see things differently, so replicating such artwork would be difficult. I had people come up to me and say they could do it, but some of them ended up becoming my students instead.”

According to a statement the artists’ interpretations will have a visual impact and encourage the public to explore and respond with their senses, in the hope of encouraging viewers to rethink, reflect, and develop an awareness of the importance of living in harmony with their surroundings.
