KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Child Development, and Community Welfare (KPWKK) will search for the 100 people who have yet to receive their citizenship approval letters.

Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the effort was to help the Minister of Home Affairs (KDN) because Putrajaya was not familiar with the state’s geography.

“We have received a list of 100 names of individuals requested by the Home Affairs to claim their approval letters. When we look at the address given, some are just the name of the longhouses or village, some don’t even provide a phone number making them difficult to contact.

“Then this list will be divided according to their respective districts and then handed over to the District Office Officer, Tribal Head or Community Head to make it easier for us to track them,” she said.

She was at a press conference after officiating at the Sejambak Kasih Ceremony at Mydin Petra Jaya, yesterday.

Fatimah added that the effort was important because, after a long time, all the individuals waited for the approval of the application, but now they have not taken the approval letter to be issued a citizenship certificate.

“It is extremely difficult for them to obtain approval, yet when the letter arrives, they may not realise it is there or may be unable to obtain it due to various difficulties.

“So I hope this problem can be resolved by bringing a letter to the district office nearest to them,” she explained.

Fatimah also said that the numbers will increase from time to time while hoping that the autonomy of citizenship status can be given to Sarawak to make it easier for the government to manage itself because it better understands the status of its people.
