KUCHING: Police have concluded investigations into the case of missing four-year-old Eric Chang following legal proceedings against the caregivers.

District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the babysitter and her husband were prosecuted in Kuching Court on Thursday (March 31) after 21 days of police remand.

He said the duo were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code according to an agreement issued by the Sarawak Attorney-General’s Chambers.

“The Attorney-General’s Office agrees with our recommendations based on the results of a complete investigation to charge the two guardians under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” ACP Ahsmon told the media at Kuching District Police Headquarters here.

He added that several items related to the case were also seized, namely closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, equipment, clothing and three mobile phones.

“If convicted under Section 302 of the Penal Code, both the accused could be sentenced to death by hanging.”

He urged the public to not speculate on the case, while explaining that Eric’s disappearance was not related to organ trafficking.
