KUCHING:  A former national player and having the experience as a professional player in the national league, Sarawak-born Dangerous Lee Matthew is an asset to Sarawak, now that he is offering his services as a coach.

Dangerous, 26, is back in his home state after years in Kuala Lumpur and is hoping he may be given a coaching post as the former SMK Penrissen student who finished his five-year contract playing with Sapura Club  wants to give his services and is keen to bring up young players in the State.

The hockey player from  Kampung Git, Padawan, here, last played for Sarawak under coach M. Mahendran in the Sukma in Pahang and is also a degree holder in Bachelor in Communications from the University Putra in Kuala Lumpur. He last played for the nation when he was a back-up squad player and played in the SEA Games in 2013 held in Myanmar.

“I’m back here as I feel like coming back after many years away from home in Kuala Lumpur.

“Its almost 10 years since I left SMK Penrissen to join the Bukit Jalil school in 2007 and stayed in Kuala Lumpur ever since.

“While in the national teams, I worked under national coaches which include B.J. Prakash, Tan Beng Hai, Steven Van Huizen, Devaraj and not forgetting his first coach was Kangot in SMK Penrissen.

“He had also undergone many years under the famous German coach Paul Lissek and was for a long time a member of the back-up squad. He was chosen for the 18-member squad for the Project 2013 to represent Malaysia in the Junior World Cup held in India in Dec 2013.

“I’m willing to take up any coaching job if there is an offer and I believe I still hae plenty to offer as I’ve experience working under several coaches,” said Dangerous recently who dropped by to help out in the under-12 coaching clinic for students at the Sarawak stadium at Padungan recently.

Hockey Association of Sarawak (HAS) chief coach C. Sivasubramaniam welcomed the offer by Dangerous Lee of his coaching services.

Sivasubramaniam deemed the availability of such an experienced former national player as an asset to Sarawak as he is thinking of having him as the coach in charge of the men’s hockey if all goes well.

That will hinge on the willingness by men’s coach Sri Sakrunathan @ Murti to switch to become the women’s coach. Another women coach Catherine Lambor is having leave at the moment. “The availability of Dangerous Lee a former national and very skilful player is an asset to Sarawak hockey if he can be roped in as a coach.

“He is an asset as he has the experience having worked under coaches in the national side such as BJ Prakash, Tan Beng Hai, Stephen Van Huizen and many others. “In fact, our coach Murti (Sri Sakrunathan) very interested in getting him to coach, as he is also a local born.
